The Garland Smith Foundation is a philanthropic motor, funding niche, locally-generated projects to solve specific and unique civic needs found by locally affected people, assisting capacity building of project design for youth or adult initiators responsively.

Garland is the motion behind the Foundation, started when supporting the establishment of a Youth Empowerment Center as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda, and furthermore founding a One Garment for One Lantern social enterprise model providing solar lighting for rural Ugandan homes by recycling profit of own graphically/digitally designed clothing. From experiences of receiving support through life, values the deep benefits of how it feels and thereby appreciates what it means to give support.
